The Slido Alternative for People Who Teach

Slido is very good at the all-hands: ask questions, upvote them, run a quick poll. Training needs the opposite shape — scoring, sequencing, and proof that something was learned.

Slido is a meetings product, and Cisco's ownership makes that explicit: it is bundled free with paid Webex plans and shines in town halls, where audience Q&A with upvoting is the feature that matters. For a company all-hands that combination is hard to argue with, and if you already pay for Webex it is effectively free.

Teaching asks for something else. You need more than polls and Q&A — scored questions in several formats, a way to let people work through material at their own pace, a pass mark, a certificate, and a report that tells you what did not land. Slido's free plan caps a session at three polls; its paid tiers run from $150 a year for Engage to $1,800 for Enterprise, and none of them turn into a course.

InsightQuiz is built around that arc. Nine question types including cloze text, sorting, sliders and short answer with fuzzy matching; live sessions for up to 2,000 people; self-paced lessons and multi-lesson courses that end in a PDF certificate; SM-2 flashcards so the material survives the week; and AI grading for written answers. Where Slido is clearly ahead: audience Q&A, the PowerPoint add-in, and the Webex and Teams integrations.

Meeting tool or teaching tool

Slido and InsightQuiz are shaped by different jobs. Slido optimizes for a room of people who want to be heard: questions surface by upvote, polls take seconds, and the results are a snapshot of opinion. InsightQuiz optimizes for a room of people who need to learn something: questions are scored, difficulty is measured, gaps are named, and the session leaves a record behind.

That shows up in what happens next. After a Slido session you have a transcript of what the audience asked. After an InsightQuiz session you have a diagnostic report — group average, the three weakest concepts, per-question difficulty against response time, an engagement curve and a guessing indicator — plus the option to send a follow-up lesson or flashcard deck to exactly the people who need it.

Choose InsightQuiz when

  • Sessions are training or teaching, not meetings
  • You need scored questions in more than one format
  • Learning has to continue self-paced after the live session
  • Completion should produce a certificate or a pass record
  • Content needs to run inside Canvas, Brightspace or Moodle

Stay with Slido when

  • Audience Q&A with upvoting is the core of your sessions
  • You already pay for Webex and get Slido bundled
  • Your events are all-hands meetings and conferences
  • You need it embedded in Teams or Webex today

Common questions

If your sessions are meetings, you probably should not. The case for InsightQuiz starts when the session is training: scored questions in nine formats, self-paced lessons and courses, pass marks and certificates, spaced-repetition flashcards, AI grading for written answers and diagnostic reports. Slido does none of those, bundled or not.

No, and that is a genuine gap. There is no question feed with upvoting. What exists is a survey mode with rating scales, sliders, word clouds and free-text comments, optionally anonymous, plus per-question feedback fields. For a town hall, Slido remains the better tool.

Thirty on the free plan, 100 on Solo, 500 on Team, 2,000 on Business, and the price does not change with attendance. Joining is a 6-digit PIN or a QR code, with no account and no app — which is also what makes large sessions practical to run.

Only by sharing a link today. There is no Teams or Webex app yet — both are on the roadmap. You can start a session and paste the join link into a channel or meeting chat, and participants join in their browser, but it is not an embedded experience the way Slido is inside Webex.

A diagnostic report: group average, the three biggest knowledge gaps, a difficulty map plotting response time against success rate, an engagement curve across the session, a guessing-suspicion indicator and a competency radar per participant. Everything exports to CSV, and quiz, survey and course reports also export as PDF.
