The Kahoot! 360 Alternative Without the Annual Minimum

Kahoot invented the format and still runs it well. What it asks of a five-person training team is a 25-license annual contract. InsightQuiz gives you the live layer plus the learning that comes after it — monthly, with no seat minimum.

Kahoot! is the most recognized name in live quizzing, and for a keynote or a classroom warm-up it earns that reputation. The friction shows up when a small training team tries to buy it. Individual Kahoot 360 plans are priced per host and billed annually, and the entry team package — 360 Spirit — starts at 25 licenses for roughly $6,000 a year. If you are four trainers who run a dozen sessions a quarter, you are buying twenty-one licenses you will never use.

The second gap is what happens after the session. A Kahoot ends with a podium and a score. Corporate training rarely ends there: somebody has to complete the compliance module, pass at 80 percent, and receive a certificate that HR can file. InsightQuiz covers that whole arc in one tool — live quiz, self-paced lesson, multi-lesson course, pass mark, auto-generated PDF certificate — and then shows you which three questions the group actually got wrong.

The third is the LMS. If your content needs to launch from inside Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard or Moodle and write scores back to the gradebook, InsightQuiz speaks LTI 1.3 Advantage natively, including deep linking and grade passback. Kahoot does not. Where Kahoot is clearly ahead is the presentation surface: its PowerPoint, Google Slides, Teams and Zoom integrations are further along than ours, and that is a real reason to stay.

Where the two tools actually differ

Feature checkmarks only tell you so much. The honest summary is this: Kahoot is a live engagement product with training features attached, and InsightQuiz is a training product with a live engagement layer built in. If your work is mostly energizing a room, Kahoot's polish and brand recognition are worth paying for. If your work is getting a group from not knowing something to demonstrably knowing it — and proving that afterwards — the shape of InsightQuiz fits better.

The commercial difference is just as concrete. A five-trainer team pays $39 plus four seats at $9, so $75 a month, cancellable monthly. The nearest Kahoot team package is a 25-license annual commitment. For a large enterprise that difference is noise; for a training department of four or a freelance trainer it decides the purchase.

Choose InsightQuiz when

  • Your team is smaller than 25 people and a 25-license minimum makes no sense
  • Training has to end in a certificate, a pass mark or a completion record
  • Content needs to launch from Canvas, Brightspace or Moodle and write grades back
  • You want to know which questions failed, not just who won
  • You want to pay monthly and cancel without a renewal conversation

Stay with Kahoot when

  • You run quizzes mainly from inside PowerPoint, Teams or Zoom
  • Brand recognition matters — participants already know the format
  • You need a large enterprise deployment with existing procurement in place
  • Your use case really is energizing a room, and nothing after that

Common questions

Individual 360 plans are priced per host, roughly $19 to $29 per host per month billed annually depending on tier and participant cap. The entry team package, 360 Spirit, starts at 25 licenses for about $6,000 per year, annual only. These are public list prices from September 2026 — verify on kahoot.com before budgeting. InsightQuiz Team is $39 per month plus $9 per seat, monthly or yearly, with no seat minimum.

Yes. Kahoot exports quizzes as an XLSX spreadsheet, and the InsightQuiz editor imports that format directly with automatic column mapping and a preview step. Quizlet text and CSV files work too. Parsing happens in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.

Its presentation integrations. Kahoot Energize puts quizzes and polls inside PowerPoint, Google Slides, Zoom and Teams, and InsightQuiz does not have those add-ins yet — they are on the roadmap. Kahoot also has far higher brand recognition, which matters when you want a room to know the format instantly. If either is central to how you work, it is a fair reason to stay.

Yes. InsightQuiz is LTI 1.3 / LTI Advantage certified in practice: Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, Moodle and ILIAS can embed a quiz, lesson or course as an activity. Deep linking lets you pick the content from inside the LMS, students are auto-joined without a separate account, and scores flow back into the gradebook. Kahoot does not offer LTI.

Not yet, and it would be easy to be vague about that, so: InsightQuiz does not hold a SOC 2 Type II report or a published VPAT today. Data is hosted in the EU under GDPR, participants join with a name and a PIN so there is very little personal data at all, and a data processing agreement is available on request. If your procurement requires SOC 2 or an accessibility conformance report, email [email protected] and I'll tell you honestly where things stand.
