The Mentimeter Alternative Built for Training, Not Slides

Mentimeter is excellent at making a presentation interactive. If what you actually need is for people to learn something and prove it, the presentation is only the first ten minutes.

Mentimeter earned its place. Word clouds, live scales and audience Q&A turned one-way slide decks into conversations, and for a workshop opener or an all-hands pulse check it is hard to beat. It is also, by design, a presentation tool: the unit of work is a slide, and the session ends when the deck does.

Training does not end when the deck does. Somebody still has to work through the material at their own pace, answer an open-text question that a human would otherwise grade, clear a pass mark and end up with a certificate. InsightQuiz treats those as the same product: the live session, the self-paced lesson, the multi-lesson course, the certificate and the report all sit in one place, built from the same nine question types.

There is also a pricing difference that gets bigger as teams grow. Mentimeter is priced per presenter, and its Enterprise tier starts at ten licenses. InsightQuiz Team is a flat $39 per month plus $9 per additional seat with no minimum, so a three-person team pays for three people. What Mentimeter still does better: audience Q&A, the slide-builder experience and its PowerPoint add-in. If your work lives inside a deck, that is a real argument for staying.

Presentation tool or learning tool

The cleanest way to decide is to ask what happens the day after the session. If the answer is nothing — the workshop was the deliverable — Mentimeter is a very good tool and you should keep it. If the answer involves a follow-up module, a pass mark, a certificate, a refresher three weeks later or a report to someone who was not in the room, you are describing a learning platform, and that is a different product.

That is also why the analytics differ. Mentimeter shows you what the room answered. InsightQuiz shows you which three concepts the group got wrong, how response time correlated with accuracy, where attention dropped off, and which participants look like they were guessing. Same session, different question being asked of the data.

Choose InsightQuiz when

  • Learning has to continue after the live session ends
  • You need completion records, pass marks or certificates
  • Open-text answers need grading and you do not want to do it all by hand
  • Content should launch from your LMS and write grades back
  • Paying per presenter is getting expensive as the team grows

Stay with Mentimeter when

  • Your core need is making a slide deck interactive
  • Audience Q&A with upvoting is central to your sessions
  • You present from PowerPoint and want the add-in experience
  • One presenter runs everything and per-presenter pricing is fine

Common questions

For a single presenter the entry prices are close: $14.90 a month for InsightQuiz Solo against roughly $12 for Mentimeter Basic. The gap opens with team size, because Mentimeter is priced per presenter and its Enterprise tier starts at ten licenses, while InsightQuiz Team is $39 a month plus $9 per additional seat with no minimum. Three trainers pay $57 a month. Prices are September 2026 list prices and worth re-checking.

Yes. Word clouds render live during a session, and the survey mode covers rating scales, sliders, free-text comments and standalone info slides — with an anonymous option where reports show pseudonyms only. What it does not do is audience Q&A with upvoting, which Mentimeter handles well.

Not in the sense Mentimeter means. InsightQuiz has info slides with rich text, images and video inside a lesson or quiz, and a projector view for live sessions, but it is not a deck builder and there is no PowerPoint add-in yet. If you want interactive elements inside an existing deck, Mentimeter is the better fit today.

You write or generate a model answer and set grading criteria. When a participant submits a free-text response, it is scored against those criteria and you get a suggested grade with reasoning, which you can override. It turns a stack of short written answers from an evening of work into a review pass. Mentimeter has no equivalent.
